Nigeria rave of the moment, Taiwo Awoniyi whom many have wondered why he never deemed it fit to play for any Nigeria clubs while hoping to still secure a club in Europe said his action was not meant to slight the Nigeria Premier League.
Speaking with 2muchsports.com in Abuja, Awoniyi who is now a member of the Nations U-23 squad noted that things did not just work out in that direction.
“but just that things did not work out the way i planned. The Nigerian league standard is high and the clubs are well managed too,” he said.
Awoniyi however revealed that he would finally move to Europe next month but would not divulge the exact country or club he would be plying his trade next season.
And ahead of the July 19 Olympic qualifier against Congo in Port Harcourt, Awoniyi expressed confidence that the Dream Team VI will definately emerge victorious on that day.
He said they have resolved to beat Congo with a heavy score line that will make the return leg in Congo inconsequential.
“We dont know how the Congolese play but we are determined to play our normal game and get a good result in Port Harcourt and go and finish the business in Congo. For them to get to this stage, they must be a good side that we must take seriously.
“For me, i don’t predict matches but i will as usual put in my best and if the goal scoring opportunity comes, I will take it, but my concern is for the team to win well. It those not matter who scored so long as we get a very good result” he stated
