More top Europe based players are storming the camp of the Nations U-23 side and the most recent is FC Barcelona, team B Defender Godswill Ekpolo who arrived Abuja early Thursday morning. He arrived at exactly 4.38am via British Airways from Barcelona through London.
After the team not too impressive performance at the Suwon 4-Nations tournament in Korea where the Nigeria U-23 team finished third on the log, World cup coach as he is fondly called has commenced move to ensure that there will not be a repeat of such performance at the Rio Olympic Games.
To this end, he has opened the camp for more quality players to come and try their luck.
Ekpolo signed for Barcelona when he was aged nine (9), and has grown through the ranks and even went as far as captaining the under 18 Barcelona team to the Uefa Champions Youth League few years ago. As a matter of fact, he was the room mate of Arsenal Hector Bellerin for six year at Barcelona when the current Arsenal players was at the Barcelana junior team.
Godswill Ekpolo is a right back player who can also play in the central defense and the left back position. He joined the long list of other Europe based players that Chief Coach, Samson Siasia has scouted out and encouraged them to play for Nigeria through his Chief Scout/Talent Spotter Tofe Towobola.
This will be Ekpolo first trip to Nigeria since moving to Spain with his family over 15 years Ago. “I am here for business and ready to fight for a shirt in the Nigeria’s Dream Team VI team.
“I am aware of the quality and talent abound in this team since I played for the team in the friendly match against Brazil U-23 national team. But I am battle ready to fight for a shirt in the team”. He said on arrival.
