North central wins 3rd NCF National U-17 girls championship

cricketThe 3rd Edition of the NCF National U-17 Girls championship recorded huge success as North-Central were crowned champions for the first time.

5 regions across the 6 geo-political zones of the country gathered in Abuja to showcase talents that have been produced by the Coaches and Regional Development officers across the zones and it was interesting to see young girls with so much passion and desire battle it out for a place in the rankings.

The teams were divided into 2 groups and balloted. North-Central, North-West and South-west were drawn in group 1 also considered as the group of Death, while South-South and South-East were drawn in group 2 with just one game to play to gain a place in the finals.

DAY 1.

Game1:  North-Central vs North West

North-West won the toss and elected to Bat scoring a total runs of 67 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 15 overs.

In the second innings, North-Central came in to chase and surpassed the total posted by North-West and score 68 runs in 13.4 overs  for the loss of 2 wickets, with Samson Rachael as star performer with 23 runs off 30 balls.

North-Central won the match by 8 wickets.

 

Game 2: South-South vs South-East

South-East won the toss and elected to field sending in South-South to bat. South-South scored a total of 86 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 15 overs.

In the second innings, South-East came in to chase and battled hard but fell short of total score and posted a total of 80 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 15 overs.

South-South won the match by 7 runs and qualified for the finals for the 3rd consecutive time since the inception of this tournament.

 

Game3: North-West vs South-West.

South-West won the toss and elected to field sending in North-Central to bat. North West Scored a total of 64 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 10 overs with Deeka .H. scoring 13 runs not out. Star performer for South-West was Olusunde Kafayat with 4 wickets all Bowled.

In the second innings, South-West came in to chase and could only manage a total score of 34 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 10 overs.

North-West recorded their first ever victory in this tournament in 3 years of its existence winning the mat comfortably by 30 runs.

 

Game 4: North Central vs South West

The last game of day 1 saw South-West winning the toss and elected to bat scoring a total runs of 64 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in 10 overs.

In the second innings, North-Central came in to chase and scored a total of 65 runs for the loss of 1 wicket in 8.3 overs

North-Central won the match by 9 wickets to qualify for the finals against South-South

 

Day 2: Third place match

South-East won the toss and elected to field putting North-West to bat. North-West scored a total of 84 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 15 overs, with Joseph Janet the star performer scoring 19 runs not out.

In the second innings, North East Gradually but efficiently chased down the runs scoring a total of 87 runs in 14 overs  for the loss of 7 wickets with Okeakpu Chinaza as the star performer with 28 runs.

South-East won the match by 3 wickets to be crowned as third place winners.

FINAL MATCH.

The Final Match between First time Finalist North-West and Maiden Edition winners South-South saw both teams do battle with South-South winning the toss and elected to bat, scoring a total of 81 runs all out in 19.2 overs. Star performer South-South was George Chinelo with a total of 21 runs off 46 balls.

In the second innings, North-Central chased down the scores in just 13.5 overs scoring a total of 82 runs for the loss of 2 wickets with Abdulkuldri Kehinde scoring an impressive 20 runs strongly supported by Samson Rachael with 18 runs not out.

North-Central won the match by 8 wickets to be crowned champions of the 3rd edition of the NCF National u-17 girls’ championship 2016.
